023 - The Oscars

No comments:
Before anything else, I've decided to upload my resort Thalassa collection an hour ahead of schedule because I really want to go to sleep haha.

(click for a larger image)
please also visit my deviantart and give me a favorite if you have an acccount ;)

I want to just take some time to explain my inspirations behind this time. It started out with one outfit - the first one, and to be honest, recently I don't particularly work with themes as much as I do with looks. I start off with one look with identifiable elements, and just use that to create and introduce more until I have sufficient.

The collection mainly features clear vinyl raincoats and pieces, inspired by this. And then we have a fantastic tropical sea print (Dries Van Noten inspired trolol) I took from a photograph I found on deviantart here. And then we have the use of triangular shapes (been a little obsession recently), and if you remember my Euterpe collection I re-used the triangle shaped/A-shaped collar tops. All the shoes are the same - a thick, clear plexiglass (or something else) platform with straps at the front half of your foot and netting for the heel and ankles. And obviously the large netting - haven't found a proper fabric/description for that yet, but it's going to be a little stretchy.

But yes, I'm pretty darn satisfied with this collection. It's pretty streamlined and (somewhat minimalistic). Your thoughts?

Moving on, Marni's show is up. I've never per say been a tremendous fan of Marni, not my style, but they do have some good looks, and I need to say that Marni accessories have always been so amazing. I remember when I was like 13 or something I was totally fangirling over this plastic/acrylic (idk) floral bracelet, and recently I was flipping through a book and it said that was by Marni. But yes, Marni turned out with some amazing accessories this time round too (although I've always preferred the Spring ones)

The white tights giving such an oldies look~

This sort of reminds me of one of my euterpe pieces haha

Amazing embellishments, seriously. Take a look at some of the close ups:

Creepers/platforms still going to be in trend it seems

Look at that clutch!!! /squeals/

Really like this, although I'm not a fan of hand-carry bags. If it had a strap I'd be looking for a /cheaper/ version of it lol.

Versus was still quite amazing - Donatella and Kane make a killer combo. Couldn't say I enjoyed it as much as the Spring one, although I'm definitely more fond of this more dangerous, rebellious concept.

But I need to talk about (and picture spam) Dolce and Gabbana. It was such a mixed collection but on the whole it won me over. They decided to go back and get inspiration from their hometown - so it's a big mish mash of regal detailing and highly cultural and historical looks. All the approval in the world for those black-gold pieces. The white frocks however I weren't so fond of. There was also this play of sheer fabrics in wide and non-hugging silhouettes which in my opinion were....... weren't say very flattering. But later on in the show they come up with this brilliant print of an Italian painting (like all those in churches etc) - can you have an even more straightforward way to represent Italy's culture? (Other than spaghetti duh-uh). Maximum enjoyment. The close-ups are even more stunning.

One of my FAVORITE pieces ever!

Regal in leopard

This reminds me a lot of the Marni close-up I posted further up

Print clutches are quickly becoming my new obsession

I wouldn't be surprised if this becomes the new Celine luggage tote of fall 2012. It's pretty gorgeous (and comes in pony hair too I think)

And meet the show stoppers:

WOW. ok just low. Idk why but those shoes reminding me of a cake which reminds me of Marie Antoinette and her infamous "Let them eat cake!" But I'm in the wrong country's history.

And finally, some of my picks (and distastes) for the Oscars!

Angelina Jolie is Atelier Versace
Hello Angie and @angiesleftleg. You look amazing.

Of course, everybody is talking about Gywneth Paltrow in TOM FORD. Amazing, I agree. Minimalistic, but I keep feeling like it's missing just a little bit.

Ignoring the fact I love George Clooney and his films, Stacy Keibler in Marchesa!! (which i posted the picture of - what a glorious sheen). Amazing~

Particularly liked Judy Greer in Monique Lhuillier, although it was a bit plain

Jessica Chastain could have pulled off this Alexander McQueen piece better

Everybody was quite excited for Rooney Mara apparently, though I think she could've picked something nicer than this Givenchy.

Sandra Bullock in Marchesa (which is quite popular this Oscars)
I'm sorry Sandra - that isn't very flattering (and neither was Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close to be honest)

Ending off this LONG post with an amazing picture because:

1. Katie Holmes
2. Katie Holmes looking gorgeous in Elie Saab
3. Katie Holmes having a good accessory called Tom Handsome Cruise
(just like Victoria has her David)

022 - Goodbye Raf Simons

No comments:
Raf Simons spent about 6 years in Jil Sander - and from the moment he stepped in he transformed Jil Sander, not to say it's absolutely different, but in a sublime AND subliminal way that has curried much favor. His last collection at Sander is stunning. Opening with pastels that give off a serene, feminine feel that could've easily been mistaken for a Spring collection, it bursts into a myriad of metallic leatherettes (at least what I think it is) and blacks, but never forgetting the minimalism that defines the label. Obviously Simons had a checklist to get done before he left Jil Sander, and

 ☑ Legacy left behind

One of my favorite looks

And if you're read about it, the standing ovation (that called for an encore) was just amazing, and Raf Simons deserved every last second of it.

And that stunning hummingbird print for his Spring collection I will forever remember.

021 - Don't worry about your leopard prints

No comments:
(please scroll all the way to the bottom for amazing 3.1 Phillip Lim closeups) Did you, like a lot of people, buy leopard prints last season? I was hesitant on buying leopard prints cause I figured by Spring they'd be out. But I managed to find a cheap one from F&F in Prague, and G2000 was having a sale (although that piece was a lot tamer), but I didn't really wear them more than once or twice.

However, take a look at Blumarine and Just Cavalli and a few other labels (you just need to dig) and you'll see leopard prints popping up big again. So for now, just neatly tuck aside those pieces cause you'll still be able to use them later this year! Internal hurrah!

I was up until god knows what time last night doing my resort collection, so I managed to catch the live stream of Blumarine's Fall 2012-2013. A quick summary of the collections through my thoughts (that ended up being tweeted while i was watching the show):

  • OMG THAT YELLOW FUR BAG ON BLUMARINE
  • more like all the fur on blumarine in every freaking color - pink yellow blue purple orange
  • metallics~
  • those metallic silver biker gloves!!!!!!!
  • i need that metallic bag!
  • oh gawdd leopard print u srs
  • shes head to toe in leopard print omg scarf coat blazer shirt pants and shoes
  • those rainbow oil shine shoes are raaaddd

I just went to look for close-ups, and omg, what amazing metallic snakeskin

THIS BAGGGGG

What material is that - seriously I'm dubbing this the "rainbow oil shine" because it's like when you see oil on the road

Just Cavalli is bringing in more than leopard - it's bringing in zebras too.

Amazing construction.

I would love to post about 3.1 Phillip Lim but I'm so lazy too, except I was pretty interested in the shoes, so I went to find close-ups, and found a few more treasures instead.

A clutch within a clutch. Ingenious. (Oh god this is half sarcasm but really I like this)

That semi-translucent collar with an amazing shine!!
